Perceptions..

Perception refers to the set of processes we use to make sense of the different stimuli we’re presented with. Our perceptions are based on how we interpret different sensations. The perceptual process begins with receiving stimuli from environment and ends with our interpretation of those stimuli. It may happens at times the perception you are thinking of doesn’t matches or convinces others advices or opinions and it’s totally ok to carry a different perception which is way beyond and different then people around you. Just because we think something is reality doesn’t make it reality.

Perception is not reality, but admittedly perception can become a person’s reality because perception has a potent influence on how we look at reality.Think of it this way.Perception acts as a lens through which we view reality. Our perceptions influence how we focus on,process, remember, interpret, understand, synthesise, decide about, and act on reality. In doing so,our tendency is to assume that how we perceive reality is accurate representation of what reality truly is.But its not.The problem is that the lens through which we perceive is often wrapped in the first place by our genetic pre dispositions, past experiences, prior knowledge, emotions, preconceived notions, self interest and cognitive distortions.

At a societal level, when different individuals or constituencies develop perceptions that are so far apart, one immense problem is that no common ground can be found. The challenge we face with our own thinking,as well as the thinking of others,is how to ensure that perceptions remain close to reality. Here are few tips to keep in mind :

1)Don’t assume that your perceptions are reality.

2)Be respectful of others perceptions

3)Don’t hold your perceptions too tightly they may be wrong.

4)Recognize the distortions within you that May warp your perceptions.

5) Challenge your perceptions
